What size guard house do you actually need? Four real sizes compared

The first question buyers ask about a guard house is usually "how much". The better first question is what does the guard actually do inside it. A booth that is too small ends with the guard setting up a desk outside for the whole shift; one that is larger than needed means paying for floor space nobody uses.

Every model is 2.50 m tall; only the floor area changes. Where two units share a size but differ in price, the difference is specification — number of glazed panels, paint finish, and the equipment fitted.

1.00 × 1.00 m — a single checkpoint
One square metre fits a standing guard and one chair. There is no room for a desk. It suits points where the guard is inside only briefly between patrols — a car park entrance, or a secondary gate.
Worth knowing: if someone has to stay put for a full 8 to 12 hour shift, this size becomes cramped, and it usually ends with the desk being moved outside the booth — which does the entrance no favours.
1.50 × 1.50 m — desk and storage fit
At 2.25 square metres this is more than double the smallest unit. A small desk, a vehicle log book and a storage cabinet all fit while the guard can still move around. It is the most comfortable size for one guard on a full shift.
It suits housing estate and condominium entrances, medium factories, and construction sites where vehicles have to be logged in and out.
2.90 to 3.00 × 3.00 m — several staff and room for systems
These jump to 8.7 to 9 square metres, a clear step up from the small units. They take several staff at once and leave room for a CCTV monitor, the control cabinet for a barrier gate, and shift equipment.
They suit large project entrances, industrial estates, and any gate where shifts have to hand over without leaving the post unattended.

Three things people forget to check
- Truck access — the booth arrives in one piece and is placed by crane, so the truck needs to reach the spot and have room to extend its outriggers. Narrow lanes, low power lines or overhanging canopies should be flagged in advance so the team can plan the lift.
- The ground it sits on — the base should be level and able to carry the load. Soft ground, lawn or recently filled land should be paved or given load-spreading pads first, or the booth will settle out of level later.
- Power connection — internal wiring is finished at the factory, but there must be a supply point nearby to connect to. If the nearest supply is far away, plan the cable run before installation day.

Pick the size from how long the guard stays inside and what equipment has to fit, not from price alone. Brief stops are fine at 1.00 × 1.00 m; a full shift should start at 1.50 × 1.50 m; and several staff or a barrier and CCTV setup call for 3.00 × 3.00 m.
